Charlottesville, Va. – The Virginia women’s golf team swings back into action Sunday at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate held in New Orleans. The three-day, 54-hole tournament will be contested at the par-72, 6,239-yard English Turn Golf and Country Club.

The 17-team field includes (ranking): Arizona (23), UCF (19), Clemson (43), Denver, Florida (3), Houston, LSU, Miami (11), Mississippi State, Oklahoma State (20), Oregon (39), Stanford (1), Texas (21), UTSA, Tulane and Washington.

Virginia’s lineup features senior Lauren Diaz-Yi (Thousand Oaks, Calif.), junior Maho Hayakawa (Lake Mary, Fla.) sophomores Anna Redding (Concord, N.C.) and Katharine Patrick (Houston, Texas) and freshman Julia Ford (Shrewsbury, Mass.).

Hayakawa led the Cavaliers in their spring opener last weekend with a 13th-place finish at the FSU Match-Up tournament.

Florida won last year’s Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate at 2-under 862. UVA was 11th in the 17-team field. Elizabeth Szokol posted the Cavaliers’ best finish, placing 25th while Diaz-Yi was 42nd.

The field will tee off starting at 9 a.m. CT from the first and 10th tees on Sunday and Monday. Tuesday’s play will feature an 8 a.m. CT shotgun start. UVA is paired with Denver and Houston during the opening round. Live scoring is available on Golfstat.com.
