Lihue, Kauai, Hawaii – The No. 4 Virginia men’s golf team led wire-to-wire at the John Burns Intercollegiate in Lihue, Hawaii, to pick up its fourth win in five tournaments this season. The Cavaliers shot 29-under 835 to finish four shots ahead of 18th-ranked Texas A&M. UVA shot 4-under 284 during Friday’s final round.

Junior Danny Walker (Bradenton, Fla.) shot 6-under 66 during Friday’s final round to be the team’s top finisher. He tied for third place at 10-under 206. It was the highest finish of his career and marked the second consecutive season he has been UVA’s top finisher at the tournament.

Senior Jimmy Stanger (Tampa, Fla.) recorded the 13th top-10 finish of his career, shooting 7-under 209 to place eighth overall. He opened the tournament by shooting a school record 10-under 62. Freshman Andrew Orischak (Hilton Head Island, S.C.), playing in just his second college event, was 10th at 5-under 211.

Senior All-American Derek Bard (New Hartford, N.Y.) was 22nd overall at even par 216 and sophomore Thomas Walsh (High Point, N.C.) placed 47th at 220.

“This was a great team performance,” said Virginia coach Bowen Sargent. “Jimmy (10-under 62) and Derek (6-under 66) really set the tone during the first round and everyone contributed to the win. I am proud of how this team prepared for this tournament and how they approached the week. To win for the fourth time in five tournaments is a truly remarkable accomplishment.”

The Cavaliers return to action March 6-7 at the Palmetto Classic in Aiken, S.C.
