Virginia To Face Penn, Old Dominion Saturday In Norfolk

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia women’s tennis team (2-3) hits the road for the first time this season to play a pair of matches on Saturday (Feb. 18) in Norfolk, Va.
The Cavaliers will face Penn (1-2) at 10:30 a.m. in a neutral-site match before facing Old Dominion (5-1) at 5:00 p.m. Both matches will be played at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center at Old Dominion. There will be no live stats for either match, but scores will be available at VirginiaSports.com and on the program’s official Twitter account @UVAWomensTennis as soon as possible.
The Cavaliers opened the season with five consecutive matches at home, posting a perfect 2-0 record in ACC matches with wins over Boston College and Syracuse. Virginia dropped all three non-conference matches, falling to Ole Miss and conference foe Wake Forest in a non-conference match at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend, before also dropping a non-conference contest with No. 21 South Carolina.
Penn enters the weekend contest after posting a win over Temple two weeks ago and have not seen action since. The Quakers dropped matches to Georgia Tech and Kentucky to open the season at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend event hosted by the Yellow Jackets. Penn has one player ranked in the latest Oracle/ITA Singles Rankings with senior Kana Daniel coming in at No. 108.
Old Dominion has a pair of players ranked in the latest singles rankings with Holly Hutchinson at No. 57 and Borislava Botusharova at No. 89. The Monarchs lone loss came at the hands of Missouri at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend event hosted by California. Old Dominion has wins over Temple, Xavier, Appalachian State, Richmond and East Carolina.
The Cavaliers will have a week off following the two matches on Saturday and return to action on Sunday, March 5, when Virginia will host Virginia Tech in the Commonwealth Clash match at the Snyder Tennis Center at 12 p.m.
