CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — Virginia volleyball head coach Aaron Smith announced that Hannah Barcus (Virginia Beach, Va.) will join the 2017 incoming class for the Cavaliers.

Barcus is one of four signees, joining Sarah Billiard, Alexandra Spencer and Megan Wilson.

“I am very excited for Hannah to be a part of this already strong 2017 class,” Smith said. “Hannah was in Memorial Gym three summers ago for camp and a 6’3 high school freshman is impossible not to notice. As a beginner to volleyball at the time, I could see she had some work to do. The dedication she has shown toward her development is the type of commitment I want in this program. Hannah’s skills as an attacker and blocker will help us on the court right away.”

Barcus, a 6-3 middle blocker, played high school volleyball for Norfolk Academy. Barcus is a two-time Tidewater Conference of Independent Schools First Team and Virginia Independent Schools Division I First Team selection. She finished with 202 kills and 84 blocks to earn team MVP honors as a junior. In her senior season, she served as team captain and finished with 281 kills on a .474 hitting percentage while adding 116 blocks.
