Charlottesville, Va. – The No. 3 Virginia men’s golf team wraps up its Spring Break trip with an appearance at the 16th annual General Hackler Championship at the par-72, 7,233-yard Dunes Golf and Beach Club in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The 54-hole tournament takes place Saturday and Sunday.

The first two rounds of the event will be played on Saturday. The tournament will conclude with a single round on Sunday.

In addition to host Coastal Carolina and Virginia, this year’s field includes North Florida, Iowa State, South Alabama, Wake Forest, Kentucky, South Carolina, East Carolina, Charleston Southern, LSU, Kent State, NC State, East Tennessee State and Virginia Tech.

Virginia’s lineup features junior Danny Walker (Bradenton, Fla.). freshman Andrew Orischak (Hilton Head Island, S.C.), senior Derek Bard (New Hartford, N.Y), sophomore Thomas Walsh (High Point, N.C.), and freshman Luke Schaap (Potomac, Md.). Junior Connor Messick (Oak Hill, Va.) will compete as an individual.

UVA is coming off a runner-up finish at the Palmetto Intercollegiate earlier in the week. Bard won that event, the third victory of his career, by shooting 6-under 204.

UVA will be without senior Jimmy Stanger (Tampa, Fla.), who tied for first at last year’s Hackler Championship. He received an exemption to play in the PGA Tour’s Valspar Championship (March 6-12). Stanger tops the team with a 69.67 stroke average and is ranked No. 7 by Golfstat and No. 12 by Golfweek.

The Cavaliers placed second at last year’s Hackler Championship. In addition to Stanger’s first-place finish, Danny Walker was ninth and Thomas Walsh and Derek Bard tied for 27th.
