Myrtle Beach, S.C. – The No. 3 Virginia men’s golf team is in 13th place following the first day of play at the General Hackler Championship in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The Cavaliers posted rounds of 295 and 306 for a first-day total of 601. Wake Forest leads the field at 561.

Virginia senior All-American Derek Bard (New Hartford, N.Y.) led UVA by posting scores of 71 and 74 to finish the day in 15th place at 1-over 145. Sophomore Thomas Walsh (High Point, N.C.) is in 51st place at 150 after carding back-to-back scores of 75. Freshman Andrew Orischak (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) is 64th at 153, junior Danny Walker (Bradenton, Fla.) is 67th at 154 and junior Connor Messick (Oak Hill, Va.), is 73rd at 156.

Freshman Luke Schaap (Potomac, Md.), playing as an individual, had rounds of 72 and 75 to finish 28th at 147.

The final round of the tournament is scheduled for Sunday.
