Final Stats

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia women’s tennis team (6-5, 4-0 ACC) defeated No. 31 NC State (10-7, 0-5 ACC) by a score of 5-2 on Friday afternoon at the Boar’s Head Sports Club.

Virginia started strong by winning the doubles point, then junior Cassie Mercer (Huntington, W. Va.), freshman Rosie Johanson (Abbotsford, British Columbia), freshman Camille Favero (Sacramento, Calif.) and freshman Chloe Gullickson (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) picked up singles wins to take the match.

The duo of Johanson and sophomore Meghan Kelley (Falmouth, Maine) won 6-3 on court two and freshman Hunter Bleser (New Braunfels, Texas) teamed up with Favero for a 6-2 win on court three to clinch the doubles point.

In singles, Mercer was the first to finish with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Claudia Wiktorin to give UVA a 2-0 lead. NC State picked up a win at No. 3 singles as Anna Rogers topped Kelley, 6-3, 6-4 to make it 2-1.

The Cavaliers scored another point as Favero completed a 6-1, 6-3 win over Tayla Stenta at No. 6. Johanson clinched the win for the Cavaliers on court one, defeating Martina Frantova, 6-3, 7-5. Gullickson made it a 5-1 lead for Virginia with a 6-4, 7-5 win on court four. Junior Teodora Radosvljevic (Belgrade, Serbia) fell to Bianca Moldovan, 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 on court five to close the match, 5-2.

Virginia begins a three-match road trip on Sunday, March 19 at Notre Dame. The Cavaliers then travel to Duke on Friday, March 24 and to North Carolina on Sunday, March 26.
