Charlottesville, Va. – The No. 8 Virginia men’s golf team is back to full strength as it prepares for the Linger Longer Invitational at the par-72, 7,073-yard Great Waters at Reynolds Lake Oconee in Greensboro, Ga. The 54-hole tournament runs Sunday through Tuesday. Split tees will be used each day with play starting at 8:30 a.m.
This year’s tournament field also includes Alabama, Augusta, Baylor, Charlotte, Georgia, Kennesaw State, Maryland, Mercer, Michigan, Middle Tennessee State, Ohio State, Troy, Virginia Commonwealth and UNCG.
Virginia’s lineup features seniors Derek Bard (New Hartford, N.Y) and Jimmy Stanger (Tampa, Fla.), sophomore Thomas Walsh (High Point, N.C.), junior Danny Walker (Bradenton, Fla.) and freshman Luke Schaap (Potomac, Md.). All four veteran Cavaliers competed in the tournament last year.
Virginia placed fourth at last year’s event at 3-under 861. Bard tied for fourth to lead the Cavaliers. He finished at 6-under 210. Stanger tied for eighth at 3-under 213. It was UVA’s first time playing in the tournament.
