Greensboro, Ga. – The No. 8 Virginia men’s golf team finished second at the Linger Longer Invitational in Greensboro, Ga. Virginia shot 9-under 279 for a three-day total of 18-under 846. No. 4 Baylor ran away with the team title, finishing first at 33-under 831. No. 20 Georgia was third at 853.

The finish was UVA sixth win or runner-up showing this season in eight tournament appearances.

Senior Derek Bard (New Hartford, N.Y.) led UVA with a fifth-place effort at 8-under 208. He completed play with a final round score of 3-under 69. It marked the 18th time in Bard’s career he has managed a top-10 finish and it was his fourth this year.

Junior Danny Walker (Bradenton, Fla.) posted the Cavaliers’ best final-round score, shooting 5-under 67. He moved all the way up to 15th place at 4-under 212. Freshman Luke Schaap (Potomac, Md.) also placed 15th thanks to a final round score of 70. It was his best showing of the spring.

Sophomore Thomas Walsh placed 27th at even par 216. He shot 73 on Tuesday. Senior Jimmy Stanger (Tampa, Fla.) was 34th at 218. He shot 75 during the final round.

Georgia’s Greyson Sigg took medalist honors at 16-under 200.

The Cavaliers return to action this weekend for the Hootie @Bulls Bay tournament in Charleston, S.C.
