Kelly Reese, Maggie Jackson Earn ACC Weekly Honors

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Senior Kelly Reese (Severna Park, Md.) and sophomore Maggie Jackson (Alexandria, Va.) earned Atlantic Coast Conference weekly honors after helping the No. 19 Virginia women’s lacrosse team to two wins last week, the league announced on Tuesday.

Reese was named ACC Co-Offensive Player of the Week after averaging 4.00 goals per game on 6.00 shots per game with an .833 shot on goal percentage. She was also a perfect 3-for-3 on free position shots. Against Loyola, Reese tallied a season-high and matched her career-high with five goals to lead the Cavaliers, scoring four of those goals in the second half to help secure the 11-7 win.

Reese was instrumental in a hot start against then-No. 10 Notre Dame, scoring during UVA’s 3-0 run to begin the game. The attacker then hit back-to-back goals to complete her fifth hat trick of the season in the first half to put the Cavaliers ahead 9-1. Reese also added three draw controls in the 15-5 win.

Jackson earned ACC Defensive Player of the Week honors, recording seven caused turnovers, nine ground balls and seven draw controls in UVA’s two games. Jackson also added two goals and four assists. Against Loyola, Jackson recorded six draw controls, including the first of the game that led to UVA’s opening goal. She also caused five key turnovers and had five ground balls.

In the win over Notre Dame, Jackson scored the opening goal in a game in which UVA never trailed. Jackson had a caused turnover and then assisted on a goal to put UVA up 4-1. She finished with two caused turnovers and four ground balls to help hold Notre Dame to just five goals.

It is the second weekly honor for Reese and the first for Jackson.

Virginia will travel to James Madison for a mid-week contest on Wednesday, March 22 before returning home to host No. 17 Duke on Saturday, March 25 at 1 p.m. at KlÃÆ’¶ckner Stadium.
