Schubert Lands on UVA Top-Times List

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Day three of the NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships concluded on Friday (March 24) at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis, Ind., with Virginia receiving a personal best performance from freshman swimmer, Ted Schubert (Ashland, Va.) in the 100-yard butterfly.
Schubert landed on the UVA all-time top times list with his first NCAA appearance, reaching the wall at 47.01 to rank sixth in program history. His time placed him 40th in the meet.
Freshman diver Bryce Shelton (Vienna, Va.) climbed the rankings for the 3-meter diving prelims to finish 17th overall in the competition. He scored a total of 348.65 points, moving higher in the standings after each round.
“I’m proud of Bryce’s (Shelton) effort today,” said head diving coach Jason Glorius. “He hung tough against some of the best divers in the world but just needed to be a little better here and there. Being half a point away from All-America can be frustrating but we will use it as motivation to do better tomorrow and in the future.”
Senior Austin Quinn (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) clocked a time of 3:46.78 in the 400-yard individual medley to rank 27th overall while in the 100-yard backstroke, freshman Joe Clark (Worcester Park, Great Britain) touched with a time of 46.77 to mirror the 27th-place finish.
Sophomore Zach Fong (Moorestown, N.J.) joined Schubert in the 100-yard butterfly. Fong finished 41st with a time of 47.09 to round out UVA’s events.
Saturday concludes the NCAA Championships as Cavalier swimmers will compete in the 200-yard backstroke, 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard breaststroke, 200-yard butterfly, 400-yard freestyle relay and the platform diving. The prelims are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m., with finals starting at 6 p.m.
