Charlottesville, Va. – The ninth-ranked Virginia men’s golf team returns to play this weekend at the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate. The 54-hole event runs Sunday through Tuesday at the par-72, 7,268-yard Bulls Bay Golf Club in Awendaw, S.C.
The 15-team field includes Auburn, Charleston Southern, College of Charleston, Georgia State, Houston, Kansas, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, NC State, Purdue, South Carolina, Richmond and Wisconsin.
The Hoos’ lineup includes seniors Derek Bard (New Hartford, N.Y.) and Jimmy Stanger (Tampa, Fla.) junior Danny Walker (Bradenton, Fla.), sophomore Thomas Walsh (High Point, N.C.) and freshman Luke Schaap (Potomac, Md.). Freshman Andrew Orischak (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) will compete as an individual.
Stanger leads the Cavaliers with a 70.17 stroke average and Bard is second at 70.57. Bard has been UVA’s top finisher in its last three outings with a win at the Palmetto Intercollegiate, a 15th-place showing at the rain-shortened General Hackler Championship and a fifth-place showing at last weekend’s Linger Longer Invitational where the Cavaliers placed second.
During Sunday’s first round, Virginia will be paired with Auburn and Kentucky and will tee off starting at 9:10 a.m. from the No. 1 tee. Live scoring is online at BirdieFire.com.
