Awendaw, S.C. – The No. 9 Virginia men’s golf team completed the opening round at the Hootie at Bulls Bay tournament in third place after shooting 7-under 281. The 15-team field is competing at Bulls Bay Golf Club in Awendaw, S.C. The event is hosted by the Hootie and the Blowfish Foundation.

Senior Jimmy Stanger (Tampa, Fla.) led UVA by firing 5-under 67. His round featured seven birdies and a pair of bogeys. Stanger is tied for third place, one shot behind co-leaders Braden Thornberry of Mississippi and Keenan Huskey of South Carolina.

UVA freshman Luke Schaap (Potomac, Md.) is tied for 12th place at 2-under 70. Sophomore Thomas Walsh (High Point, N.C.) and senior Derek Bard (New Hartford, N.Y.) are tied for 35th at 72 and junior Danny Walker (Bradenton, Fla.) is in 71st place after shooting 76.

Freshman Andrew Orischak (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) is also tied for 12th place at 70. He is competing as an individual and his scores do not count toward UVA’s team total.

Georgia State leads the field at 11-under 277 while South Carolina is second at 279, two strokes ahead of UVA.

The second round of the tournament is set for Monday and the final round takes place Tuesday. Live scoring is online at BirdieFire.com.
