Cavaliers Drop Back to Eighth at Hootie at Bulls Bay

Awendaw, S.C. – The No. 9 Virginia men’s golf team dropped down to eighth place after the second round of the Hootie at Bulls Bay tournament. The Cavaliers posted a second-round score of 7-over 295 for a two-day total of even par 576. South Carolina and Mississippi lead the 15-team field at 565. The event is taking place at Bulls Bay Golf Club in Awendaw, S.C., and is hosted by the Hootie and the Blowfish Foundation.
Senior Derek Bard (New Hartford, N.Y.) had UVA’s best round Monday, shooting 3-under 69 to move into seventh place at 3-under 141. The Cavaliers’ overall leader is senior Jimmy Stanger (Tampa, Fla.), who is tied for third place at 5-under 139. He posted a second-round score of even par 72.
Stanger enters Tuesday’s final round four strokes behind co-leaders Braden Thornberry and Ben Wolcott of Mississippi.
UVA sophomore Thomas Walsh (High Point, N.C.) is in 55th place at 148 while freshman Luke Schaap (Potomac, Md.) is 62nd at 150. Junior Danny Walker (Bradenton, Fla.) finished the second round in 78th place at 154.
Freshman Andrew Orischak (Hilton Head Island, S.C.), who is competing as an individual, is in 11th place at 2-under 142.
UVA is paired with Purdue and Auburn during Tuesday’s final round. Those teams are set to tee off starting at 8 a.m. from the 10th tee. Live scoring is online at BirdieFire.com.
