No. 3 Virginia Hosts Clemson on Sunday

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 3 Virginia men’s tennis team (17-1, 4-1 ACC) hosts Clemson (8-10, 1-5 ACC) on Sunday, April 2 at 1 p.m. at the Snyder Tennis Center in Charlottesville, Va.

Sunday’s match is a Cavman’s Crew day with a face painter and balloon artist before the match. There will also be a Sunday Sundae Bar with free ice cream and toppings after the doubles point (while supplies last).

Admission is free for all UVA home tennis matches. Live scoring and live streaming video will also be available via the link posted on VirginiaSports.com.

The Cavaliers are trying to bounce back after suffering their first loss of the season on Friday night at No. 1 Wake Forest. The Demon Deacons downed the Cavaliers 5-2 with junior Henrik Wiersholm (Kirkland, Wash.) and senior Luca Corinteli (Alexandria, Va.) picking up straight-set singles wins on courts five and six. In a match that was much closer than the final score might convey, seniors Thai-Son Kwiatkowski (Charlotte, N.C.), Alexander Ritschard (Zurich, Switzerland) and J.C. Aragone (Yorba Linda, Calif.) all battled in three-set matches, but were edged out by the Deacons in each.

Wiersholm improved to 11-0 in singles with his 7-6 (5), 6-3 victory over Christian Seraphim on Friday night, the longest active singles win streak on the team. Kwiatkowski and Ritschard are 11-0 this season as a doubles team, including a 7-0 mark at No. 2.

Clemson has dropped its last eight matches with its last win coming in its ACC opener at Miami on Feb. 19. On Friday, Virginia Tech topped the Tigers, 6-1, with unranked Alex Favrot topping No. 82 Jai Corbett 7-6 (2), 6-4 at line one singles.

The Clemson match is the first of four-straight UVA home contests. Next weekend, the Cavaliers will take on Virginia Tech on Friday, April 7 at 3 p.m. followed by a match on Sunday, April 9 against No. 11 North Carolina with a new start time of 1 p.m.
