CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 15 Virginia women’s lacrosse team (7-6) plays its final regular season road game Saturday (April 8) against No. 5 Penn State (12-1) at 1 p.m. at the Penn State Lacrosse Field in University Park, Pa.

Virginia will play its second consecutive game against a top-five team after falling to No. 1 Maryland, 16-11, on Wednesday night. The Cavaliers had an early 2-0 lead before the teams began trading goals. With the game tied at 10, Maryland used a 6-0 run across 11 minutes to take the win. Junior Kasey Behr (Northport, N.Y.) led the Cavaliers with three goals in the contest.

The Cavaliers are leading the ACC with 20.62 ground balls per game and rank second with 10.62 caused turnovers per game. Sophomore Maggie Jackson (Alexandria, Va.) leads UVA with 45 points on 22 goals and 23 assists. Senior Kelly Reese (Severna Park, Md.) has a team-high 33 goals. Junior Rachel Vander Kolk (Severna Park, Md.) has 97 saves, after matching a season-high with 12 saves against Maryland.

Virginia leads the all-time series with Penn State 21-17 and is 10-5 in games played in University Park. The Cavaliers won last year’s meeting 16-13 in Charlottesville. UVA won the most recent meeting at Penn State, 16-15, on Feb. 28, 2015.

Penn State has won five in a row entering Saturday’s contest. The Nittany Lions have had a week off since most recently defeating Ohio State, 16-12, on April 1. Penn State leads the Big Ten in draw controls per game (15.38) and assists per game (6.46). PSU’s 14.77 goals per game ranks second in the Big 10 and 14th nationally, while allowing 9.38 goals per game. Steph Lazo leads the Big 10 with 71 points on the season (38 goals, 33 assists), while Madison Carter has a league-leading 48 goals. Goalkeeper Cat Rainone is averaging 7.38 saves per game, with a .466 save percentage.

UVA returns home for its final three regular season games. The Cavaliers host Navy on Wednesday, April 12, before hosting ACC foes Louisville on Saturday, April 15 and Virginia Tech on Saturday, April 22.
