Softball Announces Addition to Signing Class

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia softball program announced Madi Traver (Coppell, Texas) as the newest signee for the 2017-18 academic year. Traver is the eighth newcomer to commit to Virginia since the fall.

“Upon meeting Madi we knew she was a great fit for the program both academically and athletically,” said head coach Joanna Hardin. “She understands the value of UVA and wants to be part of building a championship culture on the softball field. She’ll add some versatility on defense and power to our lineup. We are really excited to have the Travers as part of our family and look forward to a great future with her!”

Traver is a four-year starter at catcher and third base at Coppell High School in Coppell, Texas. She has earned All-District honors in each of her first three seasons of high school softball. In her junior campaign, she batted .471 with nine home runs, 10 doubles and 29 RBIs. Her .911 slugging percentage in 2016 established a new school record. She currently owns Coppell softball records in career home runs (23), RBIs (112) and single-season RBIs (45 in 2017).

For her work in the classroom Traver was recognized as an NFCA All-American Scholar Athlete in 2016. She a two-time First Team All-Academic selection and a member of the National Honors Society.

Traver has played club softball for Impact Gold-DFW under the direction of Sue Carpenter and Dave Newcomb since 2012.
