Pawleys Island, SC – The Virginia women’s golf team is tied for ninth place after the second round of play at the ACC Championships in Pawleys Island, S.C. UVA shot 5-over 293 on Friday, an 11-stroke improvement over its first-round score, to finish with a 36-hole total of 597. No. 10 Duke enters the final round leading the field by nine shots at 6-under 570.

For the second consecutive day UVA was led by senior Lauren Diaz-Yi (Thousand Oaks, Calif.). She shot even par 72 to move up to 20th place at 2-over 146. Sophomore Morgan Gonzales (Chandler, Ariz.) and freshman Julia Ford are tied for 33rd place at 6-over 150. Ford shot 73 during the second round while Gonzales posted a score of 75.

Sophomore Anna Redding (Concord, N.C.) is in 43rd place at 154 while junior Maho Hayakawa (Lake Mary, Fla.) is 53rd at 157. Redding shot 76 on Friday while Hayakawa had a 73.

Florida State’s Kim Metraux and Duke’s Leona Magurie share the lead for medalist at 4-under 140.

UVA will start its third round starting at 8 a.m. from the first tee while paired with Virginia Tech and Wake Forest.

The ACC Championships serves as the event in Commonwealth Clash presented by Virginia529 between UVA and Virginia Tech women’s golf programs. The Hokies are in 10th place, 15 strokes behind UVA, entering Saturday’s final round. The highest finisher between the two teams will earn one point in the Commonwealth Clash standings.
