Athens, Ga. – Virginia sophomore Anna Redding (Concord, N.C.) is tied for 16th place after the opening round of play at the NCAA Women’s Golf Regional Championship taking place at the University of Georgia Golf Course. Redding shot 1-over 73. Her score was the second best among the six individual competitors at the site competing for a chance to advance to the NCAA Championships. The 54-hole tournament runs through Wednesday.

Redding got off to a rocky start, posting three bogeys over her first seven holes. From that point she played her final 11 holes at 2-under par including a birdie on her final hole, the par-5 ninth.

The top-six teams from the regional and the low three individuals who are not members of those teams will advance to the NCAA Championships, which will be contested on May 19-24 at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Hills, Ill., outside Chicago.

Redding will tee off starting at 8:18 a.m. on Tuesday for her second round.
