Charlottesville, Va. – The Atlantic Coast Conference announced today Virginia senior men’s golfers Derek Bard (New Hartford, N.Y.) and Jimmy Stanger (Tampa, Fla.) have been named to the 2017 All-ACC team.

Bard was named All-ACC for the third time in his career after picking up the honor the past two seasons. He is second on the team with a 71.00 stroke average, ranks No. 63 in the current Golfstat standings and is No. 43 in Golfweek’s poll. This season he had four top-10 finishes and won a tournament for the third time in his career, placing first at the Palmetto Intercollegiate.

Bard becomes just the fourth men’s golfer in UVA history to earn all-conference honors for three consecutive years. Denny McCarthy received the honor in 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 while Simon Cooke was named All-ACC in 1994, 1995 and 1996 and Ben Kohles repeated the honor in 2010, 2011 and 2012.

Stanger picks up All-ACC honors for the second time. The ACC individual champion, Stanger leads UVA with a 70.37 stroke average. He is ranked No. 12 by Golfstat and No. 21 by Golfweek. In addition to his victory at the ACC Championships, he also tied for first at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate and posted top-10 finishes in six of nine tournaments.

Stanger was named ACC Golfer of the Week in October and April. Earlier this year Stanger was named to the 2017 United States Arnold Palmer Cup team. He is also on the watch list for the 2017 Ben Hogan Award and was a finalist for the Byron Nelson Award and a semifinalist for the Jack Nicklaus Award.

Wake Forest’s Will Zalatoris garnered ACC Player of the Year accolades, while Clemson’s Doc Redman won ACC Freshman and NC State’s Richard Sykes was voted the Coach of the Year. The All-ACC Team, Player and Freshman of the Year were decided by a combination of the Golfstat and Golfweek/Sagarin rankings in conjunction with a vote of the league’s 12 head coaches, while Coach of the Year was selected by a vote of the coaches.

The 18th-ranked Cavaliers open play at the 2017 NCAA Regional Championship in Baton Rouge, La., next Monday.
