UVA Top PerformersIyana Hughes: 1-for-2, 2B (9)Katie Park: 1-for-3 CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – No. 4 Florida State (49-6-1) advanced to the ACC Championship semifinal round with a 16-0, five-inning victory over eighth-seeded Virginia (22-32). The loss for the Cavaliers concludes their 2017 campaign under first-year head coach, Joanna Hardin. After both teams were retired in order in the first inning, Florida State plated four runs in the bottom of the second inning. Three came in on one swing of the bat by Dani Morgan who finished the day 2-for-3 with three runs scored and three RBIs. The Seminoles erupted for an ACC Tournament single inning record, 12 runs in the bottom of the third inning and was highlighted by a pair of home runs by Anna Shelnutt. Her three-run home run extended the Florida State lead to 7-0. Later in the frame her grand slam with two outs put the game out of reach at 15-0. Shelnutt was one of four multi-hit performers for Florida State, going 2-for-3 with two home runs and seven RBIs. All but one Seminole starter scored a run as Seminoles established a new ACC-Tournament record for runs in a game. Virginia managed three hits including a double by senior Iyana Hughes (Manteca, Calif.) in the top of the second inning. The two-bagger was her ninth of the season establishing a career high. First Team All-ACC selection Katie Park (Scottsdale, Ariz.) extended her hit streak to 13 games, one shy of matching the school record. She finishes her Cavalier career having reached base safely in her last 15 games. Sophomore Erika Osherow (Darien, Conn.) was responsible for the third and final hit for the Cavaliers. The pitcher re-entered and singled up the middle in the top of the fifth inning. Virginia concludes its season with 22 wins, the most since the 2012 season. Nine of the 22 wins came in ACC play this season and is tied for the second most in school history. Additional Notes-Virginia qualified for its first ACC Tournament since 2013.-UVA falls to 9-10 against No. 1 seeds in the ACC Tournament.-FSU is 14-4 against UVA in the ACC Tournament and has now won nine-straight games against the Cavaliers.-Danni Ingraham (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) recorded three putouts and ends the season with a total of 377, the fourth most in UVA history.-Thursday marked the eighth time this season a Virginia opponent has scored five or more runs in an inning.-Senior Kinza Baad (Washington, D.C.) recorded her first putout of the season, tracking down fly ball to RF in the bottom of the fourth.-FSU snapped a season-high, three-game losing streak.
