Baton Rouge, La. – After two rounds of play, the No. 18 Virginia men’s golf team is in third place at the NCAA Regional site in Baton Rouge, La. The Cavaliers shot 10-over 298 on Tuesday for a 36-hole total of 4-over 580. No. 6 LSU leads the 14-team field at 4-under 572 while No. 19 Duke moved into second place at 3-over 579, one shot ahead of the Cavaliers.

The top five teams from the site will advance to the NCAA Championships following Wednesday’s final round. No. 29 Northwestern is in fourth place at 12-over 588 while No. 7 Oregon and No. 43 Kentucky are tied for fifth place at 13-over 589. The Ducks are the reigning NCAA Champions.

Senior Jimmy Stanger (Tampa, Fla.) led UVA during the second round by shooting 1-over 73. He moved up to fourth place at 1-under 143. Junior Danny Walker (Bradenton, Fla.) dropped back to sixth place at even par 144 after posting a second-round score of 5-over 77.

Senior Derek Bard (New Hartford, N.Y.) shot 1-over 73 for the second consecutive day and stands in 13th place at 2-over 146. Sophomore Thomas Walsh (High Point, N.C.) is in 14th place at 147 after a second-day effort of 75. Freshman Luke Schaap (Potomac, Md.) rounded out UVA’s scoring with a 77. He is 41st at 152.

LSU’s Sam Burns, the nation’s No. 2 ranked player, continues to lead the field at 7-under 137.

The University Club proved to be a tougher challenge during the second round as only four players managed to play below par. No team posted a score below par on the day.
