2017 Schedule

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia volleyball head coach Aaron Smith announced the 2017 schedule on Thursday (June 8), which will feature 16 home matches, including two home tournaments in Memorial Gymnasium.

“I am excited to play in front of our home crowd for two home tournaments this year,” Smith said. “It’s always a great atmosphere in Memorial Gym and having more home matches during a challenging non-conference schedule will be a great addition. That will help us prepare for conference play, which includes three teams who participated in the NCAA tournament last year.”

Virginia opens the season by hosting the Fairfield Inn & Suites Cavalier Classic on Aug. 25-26. The tournament will feature two matches on Friday (Aug. 25) with UVA playing Hofstra. Saturday will have four matches, with the Cavaliers taking on Liberty before closing the tournament against Villanova.

Virginia will host the Jefferson Cup Sept. 8-9, welcoming VCU, Howard and Ohio. UVA will play VCU on Friday, then take on Howard and Ohio on Saturday.

The Cavaliers play two road tournaments during September, traveling to the Appalachian Invitational Sept. 1-2 in Boone, N.C. to play ETSU, Towson and Appalachian State. The non-conference slate concludes with the Central Florida tournament in Orlando. UVA will play tournament-host UCF (Sept. 15) and Ole Miss (Sept. 16).

UVA will begin a 20-match Atlantic Coast Conference schedule on the road before beginning conference play at home with in-state rival Virginia Tech on Sept. 27. Virginia will play home-and-home matches against Florida State, Louisville, Miami, Notre Dame, Pitt and Virginia Tech.

UVA will also play home matches with Duke, Wake Forest, Clemson and Georgia Tech. The Cavaliers’ other road trips include matches at NC State, North Carolina, Boston College and Syracuse.

Virginia returns four starters from last season and welcomes six newcomers for the 2017 season.
