Three Virginia Baseball players signed professional contracts Wednesday, beginning with the No. 8 overall pick, Adam Haseley. The outfielder was introduced at a press conference and then took batting practice on the field at Citizens Bank Park before the Phillies-Cardinals game.

First baseman Pavin Smith inked his deal with the Arizona Diamondbacks Wednesday. Taken one slot before Haseley at No. 7, Smith is the highest UVA position player draft pick since Ryan Zimmerman went fourth overall in 2005. Hear from Smith as he spoke with Fox Sports Arizona.

Right-handed pitcher Tommy Doyle was in Denver Wednesday to sign his contract with the Colorado Rockies. He drew praise from Rockies manager Bud Black: “I’m gonna follow Tommy. Big arm.”
