Hoos of Summer

All sorts of baseball updates for you this morning. First, we check in up in the Cape Cod League where Jake McCarthy, fresh off his stint playing with USA Baseball’s Collegiate National Team, made his delayed debut, joining fellow Cavaliers Cameron Simmons (L) and Justin Novak (R) on the Harwich Mariners.

Speaking of McCarthys, Jake’s older brother, former Cavalier Joe McCarthy was named the Southern League Player of the Week, the second time this year he earned the honor. McCarthy batted .409 last week for the Montgomery Biscuits, Double-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays, with three doubles, two triples and a homer.

And one last baseball bit from Andrew Ramspacher at the Daily Progress who takes a look at former #UVABase player Corey Hunt (who graduated in 2011), who has led the Charlottesville Tom Sox into the Valley League playoffs for the first time in the organization’s three-year history.
