Right before the start of preseason camp, the Jacksonville Jaguars announced that former #UVAFB lineman Branden Albert was retiring from football. Albert played nine seasons in the league, earning two Pro Bowl selections.

Former Cavalier tight end Jake McGee. McGee played three years at Virginia before transferring as a grad student to Florida. He signed with the Carolina Panthers as an undrafted rookie in 2016. He spent time with the San Diego Chargers practice squad last season, but was waived in May.

Former #UVAWBB great Val Akerman, who is currently the commissioner of the Big East Conference, chatted with Pat Ralph of Excelle Sports about being a trailblazer in women’s athletics. Ackerman arrived at UVA in 1977, just five years after the implementation of Title IX, where she split the one and only scholarship for women’s basketball. During her four-year Cavalier career, Ackerman was a three-year captain and was twice named an Academic All-American. She was also the school’s first female basketball player to score 1,000 points.
