Dalton, Ga. – The No. 15 Virginia men’s golf team opened its season on Friday at the Carpet Capital Collegiate in Dalton, Ga. The Cavaliers finished the first day in 13th place after shooting 15-over 303. Florida grabbed the early lead, shooting 7-under 281.

Senior Danny Walker (Bradenton, Fla.) led UVA’s scoring players by shooting 1-over 73. He is in 22nd place after the opening 18 holes. Junior Thomas Walsh (High Point, N.C.) in in 44th position after shooting 75 while sophomore Luke Schaap (Bethesda, Md.) is 73rd with a 76. Senior Connor Messick (Oak Hill, Va.) stands 73rd after posting a 79 and sophomore Andrew Orischak (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) shot 80 and is in 74th place.

Redshirt sophomore Ashton Poole (Charlotte, N.C.) had UVA’s best performance, playing as an individual competitor. He shot even par 72 and is tied for 14th place.

The second round of the tournament is set for Saturday and the final round takes place Sunday. Live scoring is online at Golfstat.com.
