Lillie Sizzles in Debut for Cavaliers

Franklin, Tenn. – Behind the stellar debut of freshman Beth Lillie (Fullerton, Calif.), the Virginia women’s golf team finished the first round of play at Vanderbilt’s Mason Rudolph Championship tied for eighth place. The Cavaliers shot 1-over 289 and share eighth place with South Carolina. Arkansas leads the field at 15-under 273.
Lillie shot 4-under 68 in her collegiate debut to finish the round tied for sixth place. She posted five birdies and had one bogey during her round. Her score tied the UVA freshman record, shared by three former Cavaliers, for low single-round score.
Virginia junior Katharine Patrick (Houston, Texas) finished the day in 36th place after shooting 73. Classmates Anna Redding (Concord, N.C.) and Morgan Gonzales (Chandler, Ariz.) tied for 46th with scores of 2-over 74 to round out UVA’s scoring. Sophomores Julia Ford (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and Kate Harper (Isle of Palms, S.C.) are tied for 72nd after shooting 79. Harper is competing as a non-scoring individual.
The second round of the tournament will be played Saturday and the final round takes place Sunday. Virginia tees off at 8:30 a.m. Saturday from the first tee and is paired with Houston and South Carolina.
