Franklin, Tenn. – Junior Anna Redding (Concord, N.C.) carded the best 18-hole score of her career to help lead Virginia to an eighth-place finish at Vanderbilt’s Mason Rudolph Championship in the Cavaliers’ first tournament of the season. UVA shot 6-under 282 during the final round for a three-day total of 3-under 861. Arkansas ran away with the team title, shooting 41-under 823.

Redding shot 5-under 67 as she played her final round bogey-free to finish eighth overall. She played her final 36 holes at the event at 8-under par. It marked the third time Redding has posted a top-10 finish during her career and the first since her freshman year.

Freshman Beth Lillie (Fullerton, Calif.) finished 30th in her collegiate debut. After shooting 3-under 69 during her first round, she followed that up with a 72 on Saturday and 73 on Sunday for a 54-hole total of 2-under 214.

Junior Morgan Gonzales (Chandler, Ariz.) placed 40th at 2-over 218. She shot 1-under 71 during the final round. That score equaled her best 18-hole total from last season.

Junior Katharine Patrick (Houston, Texas) also shot 71 on Sunday and she finished 44th at 3-over 219. That score stands as the best three-round total of her career.

Sophomore Julia Ford (Shrewsbury, Mass.) rounded out the UVA lineup by placing 71st at 231. She shot 75 during the final round. Sophomore Kate Harper (Isle of Palms, S.C.), who competed as an individual, was 73rd at 234. She posted a final-round score of 76.

UVA’s performance showed marked improvement from last season. The Cavaliers never had a player finish in the top-10 of a tournament during the 2016-17 campaign. UVA’s team score topped any 54-hole total from last season and the Cavaliers 6-under effort on Sunday bettered any 18-hole total from last season.

Virginia is off until Oct. 13-15 when the Cavaliers compete at the Tar Heel Invitational.
