CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Seniors Ali Zwicker (Victoria, British Columbia) and Anna Fairs (Thorpe Thewles, England) have been named co-captains for the 2017-18 Virginia rowing team, head coach Kevin Sauer announced Wednesday (Sept. 20).

Zwicker and Fairs helped UVA to its eighth-straight ACC championship and an 11th-place showing at the NCAA Championships last May.

“Ali and Anna are impressive young women and will be great leaders for our team,” Sauer said.

In 2017-18, Zwicker helped UVA’s second varsity eight to a 12th-place finish at the NCAA Championships. Zwicker and the second varsity eight also placed at the ACC Championship. She earned Virginia’s Craig Fielder Memorial Award for overcoming adversity and was an ACC Top VI Award recipient. Zwicker is a three-time ACC Academic Honor Roll recipient.

Fairs helped the Cavaliers’ varsity eight to its sixth-straight ACC championship and was part of the varsity eight that placed 10th at the NCAA Championships.

The Cavaliers will compete in the 53rd Head of the Charles on Sunday, Oct. 22 in Boston.
