CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Members of the Virginia women’s tennis team hit the courts for the first time in fall competition this weekend at the Big 5 Challenge hosted by TCU in Fort Worth, Texas.

Virginia begins competition at 9 a.m. ET on Friday (Sept. 22) and will play a second time beginning at 4 p.m. ET. Play will continue for the Cavaliers at 10 a.m. on Saturday morning. Play will conclude on Sunday with times to be determined.

Friday morning’s matches can be watched online, with no audio or live scoring, at links provided at VirginiaSports.com.

The Big 5 Challenge is the first weekend of fall competition for Virginia. The Cavaliers will continue competition next weekend at the ITA All-American Championships in Los Angeles. Competition begins with the pre-qualifying rounds on Friday, Sept. 30.

CAVALIERS IN THE PRESEASON RANKINGS
Virginia enters the Big 5 Challenge with the players ranked in the preseason ITA Women’s Singles rankings. Sophomore Rosie Johanson (Abbotsford, British Columbia) is ranked No. 34, while senior Cassie Mercer (Huntington, W.V.) is ranked No. 74 and junior Meghan Kelley (Falmouth, Maine) is ranked No. 124.

The Cavaliers also have a doubles team in the rankings with the pairing of Mercer and sophomore Chloe Gullickson (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) ranked No. 18.
