Charlottesville, Va. – The Virginia men’s golf team returns to action Sunday when the Cavaliers travel to Sugar Grove, Ill., for the Northern Intercollegiate. The event is held at Rich Harvest Farms, the site of the 2017 NCAA Championships, and hosted by Northern Illinois.

Virginia’s lineup will include junior Thomas Walsh (High Point, N.C.), sophomore Andrew Orischak (Hilton Head Island, S.C.), senior Danny Walker (Bradenton, Fla.), freshman Jimmie Massie (Lynchburg, Va.) and redshirt sophomore Ashton Poole (Charlotte, N.C.). Freshman WeiWei Gao (Cebu, Philippines) will compete in his first college event as a non-scoring individual. It is also Massie’s collegiate debut.

The field for this year’s tournament includes Eastern Kentucky, Grand Canyon, Illinois State, Iowa State, Louisiana-Monroe, Loyola-Maryland, Marquette, Michigan, Northern Illinois, Purdue and Wisconsin. The teams play 36 holes on Sunday and 18 holes on Monday.

UVA will tee off starting at 8:15 a.m. Sunday using a shotgun start. The Cavaliers will play their opening two rounds with Northern Illinois and Purdue.

The tournament was not held last years since Rich Harvest Farms hosted the NCAA Championships. The Cavaliers finished 10th at the NCAAs, the best showing in program history.

Two years ago UVA placed fifth at the Northern Intercollegiate behind Walker’s sixth-place finish. He shot 2-over 218 to record the second top-10 outing of his career. Virginia won the tournament in 2014. That event was the first in Walker’s college career.
