Virginia Travels to Pitt on Friday

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia volleyball team (4-10, 0-3 ACC) travels to take on Pitt on Friday night at 7 p.m. at Fitzgerald Field House in Pittsburgh, Pa.

HOOS HITS
Virginia has a quick turnaround after hosting Virginia Tech on Wednesday night. The Cavaliers won the first set, but the Hokies came back to win the next three and take the match.
Sophomore Jelena Novakovic (Belgrade, Serbia) had her ninth match this season with double-digit kills. Novakovic finished with 16 kills on a .433 hitting percentage.
Sophomore Chino Anukwuem (East Hanover, N.J.) is leading Virginia with a .304 hitting percentage and 41 blocks on the season.
UVA is opening ACC play with three of its first four matches on the road. The Cavaliers started at Florida State and Miami last weekend.

Pitt (9-4, 2-0 ACC) topped Syracuse and Boston College to begin conference play. The Panthers are second in the ACC in hitting percentage (.257) and kills (13.73 per set). Two players rank in the top 10 of the league in hitting percentage. Nika Markovic is fifth in the ACC with 3.79 kills per set, while also leading the team with 13 aces. Layne Van Burskirk leads the team at the net with 1.02 blocks per set.
This will mark the 13th meeting between Virginia and Pitt. The Panthers have a 9-3 advantage in the series. UVA fell in both meetings last season. The last win for the Cavaliers came on Oct. 2, 2015 at home. The last time UVA won in Pittsburgh was a 3-2 victory on Oct. 5, 2013.
