Janssen Earns Gold at World Rowing Championships

SARASOTA-BRADENTON, Fla. – Former Virginia standout Inge Janssen (Class of 2010) earned a gold medal at the 2017 World Rowing Championships this past week in Sarasota-Bradenton, Fla.
In addition, former Cavaliers Christine Roper (Class of 2011), Susanne Grainger (Class of 2013) and Meghan O’Leary (Class of 2008) each earned silver medals. Kristine O’Brien (2013) added a top-4 finish as UVA was represented by five or more competitors for the fourth consecutive World Rowing Championship.
Janssen was part of the Netherlands’ women’s quad that claimed a gold medal with a winning time of 6:16.72. Roper and Grainger earned silver medals for Canada in the women’s eight, while O’Leary claimed silver along with American teammate Ellen Tomek in the women’s double. Former UVA standout and assistant coach O’Brien was part of the fourth-place U.S. crew that finished fourth in the women’s four.
