Hoos Playing For A Title

The Cavaliers have a strong presence in the NWSL and that was evident in the playoffs this weekend as three former #UVAWSOC student-athletes were playing for a spot in the finals. Emily Sonnett scored a goal for the Portland Thorns in a win over Orlando Pride to advance to the finals, while Makenzy Doniak’s North Carolina Courage defeated Danielle Colaprico’s Chicago Red Stars for the other spot. It’s a rematch of last year’s NWSL semifinals where Doniak’s squad (then the Western New York Flash prior to moving to North Carolina this season) defeated the Thorns on the way to the NWSL Championship.

Hoos Helping Hoos
On Sunday, #UVAFH picked up an 8-0 shutout victory over Drexel. #UVAWBB sophomore center Felicia Aiyeotan had an endline “seat” for the victory. Aiyeotan used her off day from practice to lend a hand at field hockey, serving as one of the individuals who toss balls back to the players after one goes out of bounds. Aiyeotan and other members of a club she belongs to, the Organization of African Students, volunteered to assist at the game as a fundraiser for their organization.
