CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia volleyball team (4-13, 0-6 ACC) will continue ACC play on the road at NC State on Friday (Oct. 13) at 7 p.m. in Reynolds Coliseum and North Carolina on Saturday (Oct. 14) at 5:30 p.m. in Carmichael Arena.

HOOS HITS
Sophomore Jelena Novakovic (Belgrade, Serbia) leads Virginia with 2.98 kills per set. Novakovic has recorded double-figure kills in 10 matches. She had 14 against Notre Dame last weekend and is hitting 3.08 per set in conference play.

Junior Harley Sebastian (Atlanta, Ga.) had a solid weekend against Notre Dame and Louisville with two-straight double-digit kill performances, including a career-high 15 against Louisville.

Freshman Alex Spencer (Canton, Ohio) is contributing in all aspects for the Cavaliers, ranking second on the team with 122 kills and 164 digs. Spencer led UVA with a career-high 15 kills and 22 digs against Notre Dame.

Sophomore Chino Anukwuem (East Hanover, N.J.) is hitting .347 percent in conference play, while leading the way with 11 blocks. Redshirt sophomore Kat Young (Chantilly, Va.) and sophomore Kiley Banker (West Lafayette, Ind.) each have 10 blocks against the league.

OPPONENT INFO
NC State (11-6, 6-0 ACC) has won its first six matches in ACC play, including the last three matches in straight sets. The Wolfpack lead the conference in kills (916) and assists/set (13.32), and sit in fourth in blocks/set (2.60) and digs/set (14.48). Senior outside hitter Julia Brown is second in the ACC in total points on the year with 263.5 points.

The Cavaliers last beat the Wolfpack on the road on Oct. 10, 2015, when Virginia won 3-0. UVA leads the all-time series with NC State, 39-26. The two teams met last season in a five-set match, with NC State taking the win, 3-2.

UNC (7-7, 4-2 ACC) is coming off of their first weekend sweep in the ACC this year, beating Duke and Wake Forest to improve to a .500 record on the year. The Tar Heels have student-athletes pacing the ACC in various stats, with Beth Nordhorn leading in hitting percentage (.422) and Katharine Esterley leading in blocks/set (1.51).

This will be the 62nd meeting between UVA and North Carolina. The Cavaliers trail 47-14 in the series. Virginia’s last win against the Tar Heels came on Oct. 10, 2008, when they won 3-2 in Chapel Hill. Since then, the Tar Heels have won 14 consecutive matches.
