CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.-
The Virginia men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs will open their season at Penn State on Saturday (Oct. 14) at the McCoy Natatorium in University Park, Pa. The meet will begin at 11 a.m.

The Cavaliers enter the season ranked 13th on the women’s side and 22nd on the men’s side, in the preseason poll by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America.

Virginia swept last year’s meet with the women recording a score of 266-87, while the men recorded a score of 236-115. The Cavaliers captured 18 first-place finishes in a two-day meet against Penn State and Michigan.

Virginia and Penn State both competed at the 2017 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships. The Cavalier women finished 12th overall with 10 student-athletes earning All-America honors. Senior Jennifer Marrkand (Westford, Mass.) was a three-time All-America honoree, while sophomore Morgan Hill (Olney, Md.) earned the honor twice. Seniors Caitlin Cooper (Atlanta, Ga.) and Dina Rommel (East Amherst, N.Y.) and junior Eryn Eddy (Orange, Conn.) were also named All-Americans. Sophomore Bryce Shelton (Vienna, Va.) led the men’s team, finishing 17th in the 3-meter dive.

The Nittany Lions women’s team finished 36th and the men’s team finished 28th at the NCAA Championships.
