Charlottesville, Va. – The Virginia men’s golf team wraps up its fall season this weekend at the 12th annual Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate in Alpharetta. The 54-hole event begins on Friday, Oct. 20, and continues with round two Saturday morning and concludes with the final round Sunday. The tournament will take place on the Lakeside Course (par 72, 7,017 yards).

For the first 10 years of its existence, the tournament was called the United States Collegiate Championship.

The field for this year’s tournament includes Clemson, Duke, East Tennessee State, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Stanford, Texas, Texas A&M, TCU, UCLA, UNLV and Wake Forest.

The field for this year’s event is one of the strongest in college golf. A total of 13 of the 15 teams in this year’s field are in the current Golfstat top 50. Five of those are ranked among the top 10, with three others in the top 25.

Virginia’s lineup will include senior Danny Walker (Bradenton, Fla.), junior Thomas Walsh (High Point, N.C.) sophomore Ashton Poole (Charlotte, N.C.) and freshmen WeiWei Gao (Cebu, Philippines) and Jimmie Massie (Lynchburg, Va.).

Last season UVA tied Texas for the team title and Jimmy Stanger was the co-medalist at 9-under 207. Derek Bard won the individual title in 2014 with a record-setting 15-under 201 and shared the championship in 2015.
