San Lucas, Mexico – The No. 21 Virginia women’s golf team shot 6-over 290 and is tied for sixth place after the opening round of play at the Battle at the Beach at Club Campestre San Jose Golf Club in San Lucas, Mexico. Oklahoma leads the 14-team field after the opening 18 holes of play at 3-under 281.

UVA freshman Beth Lillie (Fullerton, Calif.) posted the team’s low round, shooting even par 71. She finished the first day in 17th place. Junior Anna Redding (Concord, N.C.) and sophomore Julia Ford (Shrewsbury, Mass.) are tied for 20th place at 1-over 72. Juniors Morgan Gonzales (Chandler, Ariz.) and Katharine Patrick (Houston, Texas) are tied for 42nd after shooting 4-over 75. Sophomore Jue Hee Bae (Chantilly, Va.), who is competing as a non-scoring individual, is in 70th place at 79.

Houston’s Leonie Harm and Wake Forest’s Jennifer Kupcho share the opening round lead at 4-under 67.

Virginia will be paired with Auburn, Wake Forest and Baylor for Saturday’s second round. Those teams start at 10:30 a.m. ET from holes five through nine using a shotgun start.
