Virginia Diving Finishes Second Day of Frank Elm Invite

PISCATAWAY, N.J.- The Virginia men’s and women’s diving teams concluded the second day of competition at the Frank Elm Invitational on Saturday (Nov. 18) at the Rutgers Aquatics Center in Piscataway, N.J.

The Cavaliers had two divers finish in the finals of the women’s 3-meter. Junior Kylie Towbin (New Canaan, Conn.) finished third with a score of 334.20, after placing first in the preliminary rounds with a score of 330.95. Sophomore Sydney Dusel (Naperville, Ill.) finished fifth in the event, recording a score of 285.70.

Senior Corey Johnson (Ambler, Pa.) topped the consolation finals, finishing ninth overall with a score of 295.40, while freshman Jocelyn Porter (Cornelius, N.C.) finished 12th with a score of 261.00.

Freshman Tristan Gess (Lakewood, Colo.) finished 10th in the men’s 1-meter dive. He recorded a score of 251.85 in the event.

“We had another solid day today,” head diving coach Jason Glorius said. “Tristan stepped up and dove better in the consolations, while Jocelyn and Corey did the same in their 3-meter consolation finals. Corey had the best 3-meter performance I’ve ever seen from her. Sydney was spot on in the prelims and Kylie had some great dives in both the prelims and finals. Overall, I’m very pleased with these first two days. We’ve competed well and generally have performed better in the finals.”

The Cavaliers will be back in action tomorrow for the last day of competition at the Frank Elm Invitational in Piscataway, N.J. The preliminary rounds for the men’s and women’s platform at 2 p.m.
