ITHACA, N.Y.- The No. 17 Virginia men’s squash team edged No. 12 Cornell, 5-4, on Saturday (Dec. 2) in Ithaca, N.Y. at the Belkin Squash Courts after dropping in the match against No. 4 Columbia, 8-1 earlier in the day. The No. 13 Virginia women’s team suffered losses to No. 7 Columbia, 9-0, and No. 8 Cornell, 8-1.

In the men’s match against Cornell, Virginia recorded an early lead with freshman Chris Dalglish (Fort Washington, Pa.) winning 10-12, 11-8, 11-4, 11-9 in position nine against James Paolella, and junior Jarett Odrich (Greenwich, Conn.) winning 11-5, 11-8, 11-4 in position three against Jordan Brail, respectively. Junior Grayson Bubrosky (New Canaan, Conn.) followed with a 9-11, 11-9, 11-4, 5-11, 11-9 win in position six against Benjamin Frances, while junior Killian Bubrosky (New Canaan, Conn.) advanced the Cavalier score to 4-0, with a 9-11, 8-11, 11-5, 11-3, 11-7 in position eight against Jared Scherl.

The Big Red won positions five, two, one and seven, respectively, to even the score at 4-4. William Braff captured the winning point with a three-game win against Ian Rothweiler in position four, recording a score of 11-4, 13-11, 11-6.

Against Columbia, the Cavalier men were led by junior James Dudzik (Darien, Conn.), who captured the team’s lone point in position eighth, defeating Sambhav Anand 11-8, 3-11, 11-9, 11-6. Freshmen Matthew Katz (Baltimore, Md.) and Chris Dalglish (Fort Washington, Pa.) battled through four games, suffering a loss in position four and six, respectively. Katz dropped the match 9-11, 11-4, 11-1, 11-2 to Arhum Saleem, while Dalglish lost to Robin Singh Mann, 12-14, 11-5, 11-3, 11-5.

On the women’s side, sophomore Julia Thompson (Newtown Square, Pa.), junior Madeleine Mayhew (New York, N.Y.), sophomore Elle Carroll (New York, N.Y.) and junior Molly Prockop (Groton, Mass.) forced extra games against Columbia. Thompson fell, 10-12, 11-3, 11-9, 11-6, in position one, while Mayhew lost to Doria Chen, 11-8, 12-14, 11-8, 11-6, in position seven and Carroll lost to Addie Fulton, 10-12, 11-8, 11-3, 11-4, in position eight. Prockop forced a fifth game in position nine against Julia Masch, dropping the match 8-11, 11-7, 14-12, 7-11, 11-2.

Against Cornell, senior Carey Danforth (Greenwich, Conn.) captured a 10-12, 11-9, 11-7, 9-11, 11-9 win in position four against Nghi Nguynen, recording the only point for the Cavaliers. Sophomore Sarah Doss (Richmond, Va.) battled through five games, falling in position five 12-10, 11-4, 7-11, 14-16, 11-8 to Madison Miles, while junior Annie Tyson (Flourtown, Pa.) lost in a four-game match against Colby Gallagher in position six. Tyson dropped the match 11-9, 11-7, 9-11, 11-0.

The men’s team will return to action tomorrow against No. 26 Hobart at 11 a.m. The women’s team will compete against No. 23 St. Lawrence at 11:15 a.m.
