Good Will and Cheer – #Hoos4Life

In our first blog of the new year, we wanted to catch up on our two favorite stories from over the holidays, ones that show the true spirit of the season and the heart of our #Hoos4Life, and prove that sometimes there is good news to be found on Twitter and the internet. The first is the heartwarming tale of former #UVABASE All-American Pavin Smith. Smith, who was selected in the first round of the 2017 MLB draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks, used part of his signing bonus to pay off his parent’s mortgage. On Christmas morning, he surprised them with the news, a moment which he captured on video. The story was picked up and featured everywhere from Fox News to Good Morning America.

Another on-going feel-good story is that of former #UVAFB standout Chris Long who is donating all of his game checks from this year’s NFL season to two different charitable causes. Long’s story has made the top-10 feel-good stories of the year for multiple outlets, but none meant more to Long than when former president Barack Obama tweeted about Long over the weekend.

Long had a respectful and classy reply.
