KNOXVILLE, Tenn.- The Virginia men’s and women’s diving teams concluded the second day of events at the Tennessee Diving Invitational on Thursday (Jan. 4) at the Jones Aquatic Center in Knoxville, Tenn.

The Cavaliers were led by senior Corey Johnson (Ambler, Pa.), who finished 15th in the women’s 3-meter dive with a score of 269.75. Junior Kylie Towbin (New Canaan, Conn.) placed 21st with 262.6 points.

Competing in the men’s 1-meter dive preliminary rounds, freshman Tristan Gess (Lakewood Colo.) tied for 31st. He scored 234.7 points in the event.

“Corey (Johnson) had a solid day,” head diving coach Jason Glorius said. “She did a lot of good things. Kylie (Towbin) started off a little rough, but picked it up towards the end of her list and did a really hard dive for the first time in competition. Tristan (Gess) did better today. Tomorrow should be good competition up on the tower.”

Virginia will conclude the Tennessee Diving Invitational tomorrow with the men’s and women’s platform beginning at 11 a.m. The Cavaliers will also compete in a dual meet against the Volunteers at 11 a.m., with diving scores added to the meet from the Tennessee Diving Invitational.
