CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.- The Virginia men’s and women’s squash teams will compete against Princeton on Sunday (Jan. 7) at the Jadwin Gymnasium in Princeton, N.J. The No. 14 Cavalier men’s team (5-4) will face the No. 7 Tigers (4-1) at 11 a.m., while the No. 13 Virginia women’s team (3-5) will play at 1:30 p.m. against No. 3 Princeton (5-0).

Virginia closed 2017 with the women’s team defeating No. 23 St. Lawrence, 9-0. The Cavaliers won all nine matches in three games, with junior Molly Prockop (Groton, Mass.) capturing the fifth point of the match.

The Cavalier men’s team closed the year with a two-match winning streak, defeating No. 12 Cornell, 5-4, and No. 26 Hobart, 9-0. Against Cornell, the deciding point came down to the last matchup of the day in position four. Freshman William Braff (Locust Valley, N.Y.) defeated Ian Rothweiler, 11-4, 13-11, 11-6, capturing the victory for the Cavaliers. In Virginia’s sweep against Hobart, eight of the team’s nine matches were decided in three games.

The Princeton women enter the match undefeated with its most recent win against Drexel, 7-2. The Tigers swept Franklin and Marshall, George Washington and Williams during the season, in addition to defeating Stanford, 6-3.

On the men’s side, Princeton enters with a two-match winning streak with victories over Williams, 8-1, and Drexel, 7-2. The team’s lone loss came to St. Lawrence, 5-4.
