PRINCETON, N.J.- The Virginia men’s and women’s squash teams dropped their matches to Princeton on Sunday (Jan. 7) at the Jadwin Gymnasium in Princeton, N.J. Both Cavalier teams lost 9-0 as the No. 14 Virginia men’s team (5-5) faced No. 7 Princeton (5-1), while the No. 13 women’s team (3-6) played the No. 3 Tigers (6-0).

“The players put in the work at practice through the first half of the season and our results, even in our losses, reflected that,” head coach Mark Allen said. “While today’s losses were against two top-class teams, our performance was below the high standard we’ve set thus far. We all recognized this gap and we are all going into this last week of break fully aware of what we need to do to get back on track. The goals we set for ourselves this season are ambitious. If we convert today’s disappointment into motivation, we will be back on our way to achieving them.”

On the men’s side, three Cavaliers forced a tie-break game as sophomore Toby Hansford (Darien, Conn.) battled in position one against Youssef Ibrahim. Hansford lost 11-7, 14-12, 11-8. Junior Killian Bubrosky (New Canaan, Conn.) fell in position seven, 11-8, 11-7, 12-10, against Abhimanyu Shah, while freshman Chris Dalglish (Fort Washington, Pa.) lost in position nine to Alexander Engstrom 14-12, 11-3, 11-9.

In the women’s match, junior Annie Tyson (Flourtown, Pa.) and sophomore Isabelle Ezratty (Greenwich, Conn.) forced games into a tie-break. Tyson was defeated by Emma Leonard in position five 12-10, 11-3, 11-2, while Ezratty lost in position nine to Mia Rosini, 11-6, 12-10, 11-5.

The Virginia men’s team will host Drexel and Richmond, while the women’s team will host Drexel and Georgetown on January 20 at the McArthur Squash Center.
