Coach Bestwick

Former #UVAFB head coach Dick Bestwick passed away on Thursday in Athens, Georgia, at the age of 87. Since 2003, he had been suffering from transverse myelitis, a debilitating inflammation of the spinal cord. Doug Doughty shared this tribute to the Hoo in the Roanoke Times.

Hoos on the Move

Former #UVABase pitcher Tyler Wilson will be heading to Korea next season after signing a contract to play for the LG Twins.  Wilson, who has pitched in parts of the last three seasons with the Orioles, was designated for assignment in September. The 2011 10th-round pick made his major league debut in 2015, a year after he was named the organization’s Jim Palmer Minor League Pitcher of the Year. He made nine appearances (five starts) that season and pitched to a 3.50 ERA, and earned a major league roster spot out of spring training in 2016. He quickly earned a starting rotation spot, and held it until July. He ended the year with a 5.27 major league ERA in 24 appearances. In 2017, he made just one start — a win in Boston on May 4.
