Redding Leads UVA After First Day at FSU Match-Up

Tallahassee, Fla. – The No. 16 Virginia women’s golf team used a strong second-round performance to finish the first day of the Florida State Match-Up Tournament in fourth place. The Hoos posted rounds of 6-over 294 and 9-under 279 for a 36-hole total of 3-under 573. No. 7 South Carolina leads the 12-team field at 15-under 561.
Junior Anna Redding (Concord, N.C.) led UVA by shooting 3-under 141. Ranked as the No. 33 player in the nation entering the spring, Redding posted rounds of 71 and 70 on the par-72 Don Veller Seminole Golf Course at Florida State and is tied for sixth place.
Freshman Beth Lillie (Fullerton, Calif.) had UVA’s top 18-hole score, shooting 4-under 68 during the second round to finish the day in 21st place at 1-over 145. She shot 77 during her opening round. Lillie’s second round included five birdies and one bogey.
Three Cavaliers are tied for 27th at 4-over 146. Sophomore Julia Ford (Shrewsbury, Mass.) carded scores of 72 and 74 while Morgan Gonzales (Chandler, Ariz.) shot 74 and 72 and Katharine Patrick (Houston, Texas) shot 77 and 69.
UVA also has two individual competitors in the field. Lyndsey Hunnell (Troutville, Va.) is 58th at 157 and Ju Hee Bae (Chantilly, Va.) is 62nd at 158.
The tournament wraps up Saturday with 18 holes of play. Due to inclement weather expected during the weekend, Friday’s opening round was altered to feature two rounds.
