CLEMSON, S.C.-The Virginia men’s track and field team opened the first day of competition at the Tiger Paw Invitational, hosted by Clemson, on Friday (Feb. 9)at the Clemson Indoor Track & Field Complex in Clemson, S.C.

Redshirt sophomore Johnny Pace (Chantilly, Va.) recorded a time of 14:56.62 in the 5000m. He finished ninth in the event.

In the 400m dash, freshmen Alfred Shirley III (Chesapeake, Va.) and Brandon Outlaw (Moorestown, N.J.) finished 22nd and 30th, respectively. Shirley recorded a time of 47.93, while Outlaw captured a time of 48.32. Junior Jake Dixon (Falmouth, Maine) recorded a time of 49.58, placing 48th, while freshman Jordan Willis (Williamsburg, Va.) recorded a time of 49.93, placing 50th.

Junior Emmanuel Jackson (Raleigh, N.C.) advanced to the semifinals of the men’s 60m hurdles, finishing 15th with a time of 8.22. Additionally, he finished 31st in the 60m dash with a time of 7:18.

In the shot put, junior Nace Plesko (Ljubljana, Slovenia) led the team, finishing 13th with a mark of 17.63m (57’10.25″). Redshirt junior Oghenakpobo Efekoro (Brooklyn, N.J.) placed 16th with a mark of 17.20m (56’5.25″), while redshirt junior James Williams (Radford, Va.) finished 23rd with a mark of 15.11m (49’7″).

Redshirt junior Jack Lint (Westerville, Ohio) placed 13th in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.56.

Members of Virginia will conclude competition at the Tiger Paw Invitational tomorrow with events beginning at 11 a.m. The team will also compete at the David Hemery Invitational, hosted by Boston, at the Track and Tennis Complex in Boston, Mass. The meet will compete at 10:30 a.m.
