Lihu’e, Hawaii – The Virginia men’s golf team opened its spring schedule Thursday at the John Burns Intercollegiate in Lihue, Hawaii. The Cavaliers shot 3-over 291 and completed the day in ninth place in the 20-team field. UNLV posted the day’s best round, finishing at 18-under 270. The Rebels hold a 13-shot advantage of second place Texas A&M.

The Cavaliers were led by sophomore Andrew Orischak (Hilton Head Island, S.C), who shot 1-under 71 and ended the round in 18th place. Junior Thomas Walsh (High Point, N.C.) and sophomore Ashton Poole (Charlotte, N.C.) are tied for 34th at 1-over 73. Freshman WeiWei Gao (Cebu City, Philippines) is 46th at 74 and senior Danny Walker (Bradenton, Fla.) rounded out UVA’s scoring with a 75 to complete the first round in 61st place.

The 54-hole event runs through Saturday.
