CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 14 Virginia women’s squash team (12-8) will compete in the first round of the Kurtz Cup, playing the B division of the CSA National Championships, against No. 11 Williams (14-10) on Friday (Feb. 16) at 5:30 p.m. at Harvard’s Murr Center in Boston, Mass. The Cavaliers enter as the No. 6 seed, while the Ephs are seeded third.

The women’s national championships are divided into five divisions with the College Squash Association’s latest rankings determining the tournament draw. The Kurtz Cup will feature teams ranked 9-16. In addition to Williams, the Cavaliers will compete in the B-Division against No. 9 Drexel, No. 10 Dartmouth, No. 12 George Washington, No. 13 Brown, No. 15 Middlebury and No. 16 Amherst.

The Cavaliers edged Williams earlier this season (Jan. 28), defeating the Ephs in a 5-4 victory. In that meeting, junior Madeleine Mayhew (New York, N.Y.) captured a 3-0 win in position seven, while junior Annie Tyson (Flourtown, Pa.) and sophomore Sarah Doss (Richmond, Va.) captured four-game wins in positions four and six, respectively. Senior Carey Danforth (Greenwich, Conn.) and sophomore Tara Arya (Cupertino, Calif.) defeated positions two and five, respectively, with 3-2 scores.

Virginia enters the match on an 8-0 run- which includes the win over Williams. The Cavaliers topped Middlebury 7-1 and Wesleyan 8-1, prior to sweeping the Home Round Robin. In the team’s home tournament, Virginia defeated North Carolina, Boston College, Fordham, California and John Hopkins, capturing all five matches with 9-0 scores.

Williams defeated Brown in its last out, topping the Bears 7-2. The Ephs conceded just one of its five five-game matches to the Bears.
